What is home staging?

Home staging is the art of preparing your home for an upcoming sale. Not to be confused with decorating or interior design, staging is quite the opposite. Interior design is about personalizing a living space, whereas staging is about de-personalizing.

By bringing the house back to a neutral state, potential buyers can more easily visualize themselves living in the space, rather than feeling like they are intruding upon your home. It's all about appealing to your potential buyer.

As your most valuable asset, you want to present your home in it's best possible light. This is particularly important when preparing it to be photographed and listed on the internet. Since this is the first stop for most of today's buyers, it is in those few minutes of clicking that a buyer will decide whether they want to see a home in-person or pass on it.

Unfortunately many people cannot look past cosmetic aspects and will disregard a house because they do not like the decor or they can't see past the clutter to appreciate the key architectural features.  Additionally, statistics show that buyers are more likely to pay more for a home that is move-in ready and not in need of a lot of work. This is achieved this by de-cluttering and de-personalizing the home.

Any home, regardless of size, can benefit from home staging as it will drastically reduce time spent on the market, which translates into dollar savings of several months of carrying costs.  Home staging is a fairly straight forward process but can seem overwhelming given the emotional and burdensome prospect of a move. That's why enlisting the help of a professional home stager is invaluable.
